Despite the announcement that the 2013 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible was going to debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show just early this week, the car company decided to let interested buyers get an even earlier sneak peak at the car.
Volkswagen released pictures of the new car on Thursday, which shows obvious improvements in every way imaginable.
The convertible is unlike anything Volkswagen has produced before, largely due to its unique roof which unfolds in under 16 seconds. Not only is it fast, but the roof can go down while the driver is going at speeds of over 75 mph. Basically this means if you're on the highway and feel like getting some sun on your drive, you'd be able to do so safely.
The way the roof system is set up also increases rear visibility compared to other convertibles, which makes driving around in it a lot more enjoyable.
The engine options for the 2013 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible vary depending on what the interested buyer prefers. The first option available is a six speed automatic transmission, 2.5 liter five cylinder, that gives 170 horsepower.
A 2.0 liter turbocharged four cylinder is also available and comes in a choice of manual or automatic. The engine gives 200 horsepower and buyers can expect to get 41 miles per gallon on the highway.
The third engine option is a diesel. This engine is a 2.0 turbo diesel four cylinder and reliable for 140 horsepower. This option is also obtainable in a manual or automatic.
The Beetle has an automatic rollover support system which is made up of two computer actuated bars behind the rear seat. If the driver does get into an accident, in four milliseconds the bars will pop up.
The car is currently scheduled to be released later this year, but has not been priced yet.
If you wish to view the car in person, the Los Angeles Auto Show will be held on Nov. 28 through Dec. 9 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
