Ford Motor Company, a Dearborn, Michigan-based automaker, issued a safety recall for its Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ sedans because of defective seatbelts, which could increase the risk of injury when a crash happens due to the seatbelt not properly restraining an occupant.

Ford Motor announced this recall was for the approximately 650,000 2013 to 2016 Ford Fusion and 2013 to 2015 Lincoln MKZ vehicles. Seatbelt pretensioners aid to protect a passenger by quickly and forcefully pulling the passenger into the seat during a crash. The automaker says it is aware of two accidents and two injuries associated with breaking cables --- a problem Ford Motor blames on increased temperatures that occur when pretensioners deploy.

Approxiamtely 680,872 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ vehicles were affected --- involving 602,739 in the United States, 35,614 in Canada, 8,665 in Mexico, and 653 somewhere else. These vehicles were built in Hermosillo and Flat Rock assembly plants on selected model dates and years. Injecting conformal coating into both the front driver and the passenger seat belt anchor pretensioner on Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ models would be Ford Motor's solution for this issue --- at no cost for customers. This is also going to protect the cables from high temperatures produced during deployment. 

These kinds of issues aren't new for Ford. Other complaints and issues have been reported with its previous models especially for Ford Fusion. Power steering failure, power assists steering failure, dying, or stalling of engine while driving --- these are just some of the worst problems, CARCOMPLAINTS reported. Aside from this huge seatbelt recall, Ford Motor announced on the same day about its recall on estimated 27 2017 Ford Fusion. It said that they are going to change improperly welded pivot pins, which are found on the second-row left rear seat back frame. While this problem might not hold cargo well, the company isn't aware of any injuries associated to this issue.
