To the untrained eye, the 2018 Audi Q5 may look glaringly similar to its outgoing predecessor. It retains the same height and width as the 2017 build and is only slightly longer, but the devil is in the details on the 2018 Audi Q5's exterior. Inside and underneath, meanwhile, is a completely different story: Audi's latest technology comes together to deliver a completely revamped, modern spectacle.
The 2018 Audi Q5's outside body adopts more of the German automaker's signature sinewy design than the previous model did, while its standard HID and optional LED headlamps benefit from Audi's updated sheild grille. Although the tailgate boasts nothing new, re-done LED lighting provides the Q5's rear lights with a significant clean-up, according to The Car Connection.
The Q5's interior is well-organized with switches fitted onto a single panel under the climate control, while standard gauges are ditched for a high-tech configurable LCD screen in more upscale models. The dashboard is situated lower and its roof pills have narrowed in the new Q5, all contributing to a feeling of greater space in the cabin.
Its central display does not, however, retract when idle. In addition, two small cupholders are the only negatives in a rear seat that can now move forward and back using a lever under the cushion, according to Motor Authority.
When the Q5 launches, it will be available with a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 with a performance-oriented SQ5 to be released soon after. The Q5 will be available in Premium, Premium Plus and Platinum, each with varying abilities to be uniquely fitted to its owner.
Motor Authority's first driving impressions of the vehicle found that steering was light and handling both safe and confidence-building, but feedback was narrow and the car far from being a "corner carver." The Car Connection meanwhile also noted it was less sporty than it could be, but ultimately declared it Audi's most modern entry into the market, with plus points for its level of technology and comfort.
