Car buffs, rejoice! The sixth-generation Ford Mustang is slated to receive an array of visual, as well as mechanical updates, for its 2018 model this year.
Although Ford has refrained from spilling the beans about what's in store, recently leaked documents shared by Mustang fanatics gave fans of the Blue Oval a peek on what to expect. One of the most significant changes to the 2018 Mustang lineup is that it will oust the V6 engine, according to a report from Mustang6G.
The naturally aspirated 3.7-liter six unfurls 300 HP (horsepower) at 6,500 rpm, paired with 280 pound-feet of torque at 4,000 rpm. However, a turbocharged 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder steals its spotlight. This unit generates 310 HP, coupled with 320 pound-feet of twist.
Nevertheless, Ford's decision to deep-six the V6 may not turn out to be a welcome one as far as some Mustang enthusiasts are concerned.
That being said, those who do not prefer driving a pony car geared with turbo four under the hood will need to opt for the GT model, which will not cease offering a powerful V8. Meanwhile, the flagship 5.0L (liter) naturally aspirated V8 will continue to lead the Mustang line-up.
There is also a possibility that the 2018 Mustang will come with the new 10-speed automatic torque converter gearbox, which made its first appearance with Ford F-150 trucks. Thanks to the 10-speed box, the Mustang joins the league of its chief rival --- the Chevrolet Camaro, which already received the 10-speed transmission on the ZL1.
American giants have teamed up to develop the torque converter automatic gearbox, boasting the most number of gears on a production car up to now. The 2018 Ford Mustang is also likely to hit retail showrooms alongside the new Shelby GT500, CarWale reported.
Indian consumers only get the 5.0L V8 and being Ford's halo car, it is unlikely that the EcoBoost Mustang will be launched in the country. The Shelby GTs, on the other hand, is quite likely to arrive in India before the 2018 Mustang.
