A fierce battle to seize the top rating ensued November 16 as three dramas made their premier show simultaneously on their respective networks. Premier showing of "The Legend of the Blue Sea'' was at SBS while "Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo" premiered on MBC. "Oh My Geum Bi" was first shown on KBS.
Getting the biggest number of viewers was SBS "The Legend of the Blue Sea," with "Oh My Geum Bi" landing on the second place. "Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo" was the third placer, Soompi reported.
"The Legend of the Blue Sea" has been inspired by a short story included in an anthology entitled "Eou Yadam" by Yu Mong In, a scholar during the Joseon era.
The story tells about a mermaid who lived during the Joseon era and was transported to modern day Seoul. She found herself in the company of swindlers and how she struggled to survive in such an environment was revealed in the story.
The second placer, "Oh My Geum Bi'"as shown at KBS is a story of a girl with Childhood Alzheimer's. Her father was a third-rate swindler and he supports his child alone because his wife left them. He met Gang Hee, a researcher about cultural artifacts that have been stolen. She became close to Geum Bi and her father, helping them out whenever they need help, Viki Reported.
"Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo" of MBC is a story of a girl whose life revolves around barbells. She was influenced by her father who was also a weightlifter during his younger days. She was happy weightlifting until she fell in love with an obesity doctor.
Nielsen Korea reported that 16.4 percent of television viewers watched "The Legend of the Blue Sea", making it the number one.
