A generation of nostalgic gamers will receive an early Christmas present this year from Nintendo: The first official Super Mario mobile game, "Super Mario Run," will be available on iOS devices by Dec. 15. While certain modes of the app can be played for free, unlimited game access will cost $9.99.
Nintendo in the US' senior vice president of sales and marketing, Doug Bowser, said "Super Mario Run" was developed in close coordination with original Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto. He promised all the things gamers have come to love about Mario but with a fresh take as it hits iPhones and iPads for the first time, Wired reported.
A new two-minute trailer, reported by PC and released by Nintendo, shows a preview of "Super Mario Run" and how to play. In it, Mario runs automatically, making it tailor-fit to one-handed mobile playing, and gamers can tap for Mario to jump, collecting coins and avoiding adversaries. If a player holds on longer, Mario jumps higher.
The goal of "Super Mario Run" is for Mario to beat the clock and make it to the flagpole at the end of each course. The three different gameplay elements revealed in the new trailer include the standard World Tour (where Mario must save Princess Peach, taken hostage by Bowser), Kingdom Builder (where gamers can create their own world) and Toad Rally (which allows gamers to play against one another), IGN reported.
Nintendo previously released the mobile game Miitomo, which quickly sank in popularity after the arrival of Pokemon Go. This will be their second mobile offering, and gamers who want to pre-register online can do so on their iOS 8.0 iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. Pre-registered players will get a notification as soon as "Super Mario Run" is available on the App Store.
"Super Mario Run" will launch in 151 countries and regions. It will also have several language options, like Japanese, German, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Dutch, Russian, Italian, Chinese and English.
