Mayim Bialik Injured in Crash: Brainy “Blossom”, “Big Bang Theory” Star Tweets about It

Actress Mayim Bialik was injured in a Los Angeles car crash Wednesday.

According to TMZ, the "Big Bang Theory" star, 36, was traveling alone in a white Volvo sedan when the accident occurred. She was at the corner of Hollywood Boulevard and La Brea Avenue when her car was struck by a vehicle carrying Chilean tourists.

LAPD Sergeant Monte Houze told People, "From what I was told, there was a lot of blood at the scene."

He said Bialik had "a severe injury to her left thumb" and was taken to a hospital.

Both sources said that the tourists were not cited or detained.

TMZ at first reported that the actress was in danger of losing her thumb, but tonight she issued the following tweet: "(husband typing) In pain but will keep all my fingers. If u wanna See pre accident me watch The Soup tonight lol".

Bialik gained attention as a pre-teen when she played the Bette Middler's character's younger self in the movie Beaches. She had roles on a number of TV shows, including "The Facts of Life", "Webster", and "MacGyver" before gaining the starring role in the sitcom "Blossom", which ran from 1990 to 1995.

In the years since, she has obtained a bachelor's degree and a PhD in neuroscience from UCLA, married, had two sons, and continued to appear frequently on television, having recurring roles on shows including "Curb Your Enthusiasm", "'Til Death", and "The Secret Life of the American Teenager".

Since 2010, she has had a recurring role as brainy, well-intentioned misfit Amy Farrah Fowler on CBS's "The Big Bang Theory". The show's writers made the character a neurobiologist to gel with Bialik's own field of knowledge.

Earlier this year, she published the book Beyond the Sling: A Real-Life Guide to Raising Confident, Loving Children the Attachment Parenting Way
