After its presentation in Ibiza, the Electric GT continues to advance toward its first season and has been getting a lot of big names on board. Recently, the Tesla Model S P85 race car version was tested by Ex-Formula 1 driver and three-time world champion Heinz-Harald Frentzen.
The electrical category based its first year on the Tesla Model S P85 and has participate in various events in the past few months, but perhaps most important of them all is its test at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya and this recent test of three-time F1 race winner Frentzen - whose F1 career ended in 2003 - at the Paul Ricard last Monday.
The German's participation was a last-minute arrangement and came about when he discovered the series was at the French circuit to test the Pirelli tires it wants to use when the Electric GT Series makes its planned debut in 2017, according to Racer.
Frentzen completed only seven laps but this is more than enough to see the potential of the Tesla Model S P85. In addition, the sensations gathered by former German pilot served to complete the data collected by Agustin Paya, test driver category and made some forty laps to the French track. This was confirmed by the CEO himself, Mark Gemmel.
"We were glad to have Heinz-Harald come to the track. Other than the fact he's a supremely talented driver, he is a fan of Teslas and owns two cars himself, which is great" Gemmel said, according to Netnewsledger.
After its presentation in Ibiza, the Electric GT series seems to be heading in the right direction as its getting big names aboard thanks to the rising popularity of the Tesla Model S P85 as well. Apart from Frentzen's test, Electric GT promoter claims that they already have a total of ten sponsors and 20 professional pilots aboard the series that will happen in 2017 and multiple level names have already been associated with the electric series.
One of the first drivers to be bound to the category was the Spanish Dani Clos, a famous driver at the ICA Junior level of karting, and has already taken part in the official presentation. Several more riders have joined the list of potential participants among them are Olivier Lombard, former racer, and now electric vehicles specialist as well as Stefan Wilson, IndyCar driver who has always shown great interest in ecological cars competition.
