After what seemed to be endless speculations about the Shepard Smith gay issue, the Fox reported has finally settled things once and for all by coming out as a gay man.
The big reveal took place in an exclusive interview with Huffington Post earlier this week. Although he is not particularly open in talking about his gender preference publicly, he isn't the one to deny it extensively either.
When asked about his thoughts on the accusations directed towards his former boss Roger Ailes which involved sexual harassment and homophobic remarks, Shepard openly shared that Ailes never became a hindrance to his desire to come out, Salon reports.
In fact, he said that Ailes was a great, fatherly figure in the newsroom which helped him shape his career. Apart from that, he also noted Ailes' professionalism by saying that his focus was only on making sure that everything runs smoothly on a day-to-day basis and that being gay was not a part of that. Shepard noted that their relationship as co-workers was that one that is built on respect.
Although this puts some of the Shepard Smith gay talks on rest, reports of fellow Fox reporter Gretchen Carlson making sexual assault claims towards Ailes admittedly has hit a huge blow on the relationship between the two.
It can be remembered that Carlson claimed that Ailes made advances towards her which resulted to her not being renewed in the network. A series of sexual assault claims followed all pointing out to Ailes and by the end of the said month which led to his exit from Fox.
According to Smith, he felt betrayed after hearing such allegations and it has breached a level of trust that he never thought would happen.
"I trusted him and trusts were betrayed. People outside this company can't know how painful that betrayal was," Shepard said.
Speculations of the Shepard Smith gay issue are not entirely new with the reporter being spotted in LGBT-related events and even an alleged affair with a fellow CNN staff in 2013.
