MotoGP three-time world champion Jorge Lorenzo will test an F1 Mercedes car this week at the British circuit of Silverstone. This will be a fulfilment of Lorenzo's dream and will even have a rare chance to ride the Mercedes W05, the car Lewis Hamilton used to became the 2014 F1 Champion and the first world championship of the German team.
Jorge Lorenzo, now third in the fight for the MotoGP World Championship this year, just behind Marc Marquez and Valentino Rossi, is an avowed fan of Formula 1. His impressive collection of F1 engines, trophies, helmets and other objects of the race has been so many that soon it will be showcase in a museum in Spain.
This week, the fan's dream will come true as he will follow the footsteps of Valentino Rossi with the Ferrari F2008 at Montmelo and try his luck on driving an F1 race car. In 2012, Rossi rolled within two seconds of the F1 season. We need to wait and see to find out what time will Lorenzo have now.
Finding a date for this experience to happen has not been easy, since the F1 is in the final stretch of the season, and Mercedes has four days of testing with Pirelli at the Circuit de Catalunya next week. Lorenzo is also busy with MotoGP and is ready to go to the Asian hat - trick Moreover, in December the F1 teams can not roll out any test, by regulation. Luckily Lorenzo found a perfect date to do so.
Lorenzo has tried less powerful racing cars on the British track before, in order to become familiar with these type of vehicles The Spaniard has also participated in races like the 500 kilometers of Alcaniz or the 24 Hours of Barcelona in the past just to get ready for this event.
This time, the car he will be riding is no less than a Mercedes W05 2014 - a hybrid car with nearly 900hp on it. The hybrid was designed by Aldo Costa with which Lewis Hamilton won the F1 Championship in 2014 and which with Nico Rosberg were able to win 16 of the 19 Grands Prix this season.
The test will be at Silverstone, where the current MotoGP champion has been in the last few hours rolling with other cars at lower levels to go taking his pulse to experience. This is all possible thanks to Monster, Yamaha team sponsor Movistar, and also personal sponsor of Vale and Jorge Lorenzo himself, who will continue to be the ambassadors of the energy brand.
Coincidently, Lewis Hamilton also announced his huge interest to try and ride on the Yamaha M1 that Jorge Lorenzo is best at. Is this the time for switching Championships?
