‘50 Shades of Grey’ Casting Rumor: Emma Watson as Anastasia Steele

A new casting rumor of “50 Shades of Grey” speculates that Emma Watson is in talk to play the role of Anastasia Steele, according to New York Daily News. Watson, 22, was known primarily for Hermione Grainger role in the Harry Potter series, and her image will have a big change if she takes Ana Steele’s role in the erotic sadomasochism movie.

Ana Steele in “50 Shades of Grey” is a virgin college student who gets involved in sexual relationship with a young successful businessman Christian Grey. The novel depicts erotic scenes between the two that involve bondage activities.

The film adaptation of E.L. James’ novel of the same title was announced earlier this year. Mike De Luca and Dana Brunetti are confirmed to be the producer, and author James has some control over the casting. James has previously rejected Kristen Stewart from “Twilight” to play Ana in the movie version of “50 Shades of Grey”. Other rumored candidates include Elizabeth Olsen, Mila Kunis, Rihanna, Lucy Hale, Ashley Benson, Emma Roberts, Alexis Bledel, and possibly Channing Tatum’s wife Jenna Dewan.

From what we have so far, Watson and Elizabeth Olsen, 21, are two individuals whose age is closest to the 22-year-old Ana Steele in the novel.

Could Emma Watson be a strong candidate in playing Steele’s role? Or is it just another rumor mill?
