While rumors of pouring on Apple’s next big launch of its iPhone series, nothing official has been announced from the company. A new report from The Verge suggested that a new hint may be from the chief financial officer of Verizon Wireless. Could this be more trustworthy than millions of other rumors out there?
According to The Verge, Verizon’s CFO Fran Shammo let some information slip during the company’s conference call of its Q2 financial performance.
“Of course there’s always that, uh, rumor mill out there with a new phone coming out there in the fourth quarter, so people may be waiting,” said Shammo when asked about what might have held customers back from upgrading in Q2, The Verge reported.
It may be farfetched to assume that what Shammo was referring to was indeed the next smartphone from Apple, although iPhone had been the biggest seller at Verizon. Verizon said it sold 2.7 million iPhones among 5.9 million total smartphone sales.
Apple launched its most current version, iPhone 4S, in October of 2011, so a Q4 launch of iPhone 5, sounds very likely. Some previous rumors suggested even an August or September launch, claiming Apple is hurrying to unveil the phone to fight against its competitors.
The next iPhone is rumored to become much bigger and thinner than its predecessors. The screen size is expected to increase by 0.5 inches and the thickness is expected to decrease by about half a millimeter. If rumor holds true, iPhone 5 may equip both quad-core processor and 4G LTE, which Samsung failed to do in its Galaxy S3.
As for the operating system, Apple’s upcoming iOS 6 is expected to support iPhone 5 with its new Maps app with 3D view and turn-by-turn navigation, along with much improved Siri voice service.
“[W]hile he blames the rumor mill, we'd expect Verizon's CFO to have a pretty good idea of when the carrier plans to launch Apple's next flagship device,” wrote The Verge.
