To increase sale of its diesel versions, BMW is set to introduce two new diesel models in the U.S. by 2013.
The news comes as a relief to Americans who will finally get to drive low-cost diesel engines, fighting back against Europe where diesel cars rule the roost. Diesel cars are one of the most fuel-efficient internal combustion engines produced today. And this seems to be the prime reason for BMW to introduce two more diesel models in the U.S. by 2013. According to an official announcement by the world-class automaker, the new diesel models will have four cylinder oil burner and 3.0 liter inline six diesel engines.
European countries have been widely driving diesel vehicles for decades and their vehicles have been small, maneuverable, with fuel efficient diesel engines. According to reports by Hybrid Car and Baum Associates, sale of diesel cars in the first quarter of 2012 have jumped 35 percent. Since latest experiments have been done in diesel technology, car owners will definitely get to see more diesel engines being introduced in the U.S. market. It has been proved by numerous environmental agencies that diesel engines are the most environmentally-friendly power sources available in auto markets today.
BMW is not the only automaker in the world to manufacture environmentally-friendly diesel engines, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen have also been awarded with manufacturing world class diesel engines which are available in the U.S. The report further reveals that the yet-to-be launched diesel engines will come with features such as 2.0 liter four-cylinder diesel engine which produces 180 horsepower and 280 lb. ft. of torque. The oil burner will feature the latest direct-injection technology. BMW officially states that the new diesel engine will be their highest mileage engine and will outperform their previous hybrid offerings.
BMW also claims that the new diesel variants will have significant mileage improvement features over the current 35d engine which is available in 3-Series and X5. Diesel variants are expected to hit the market with all-new eight speed automatic transmissions. Both diesel engines announced by BMW will utilize SCR technology to reduce emissions in order to be legal in all the 50 states. Since the U.S. has witnessed an increasing cost of diesel which has outpaced gasoline, few of the diesel cars have been certified for sale in the country.
