Lewis Hamilton, England's 2008 Formula One world champion, wants to participate in night race on the streets of Russian's capital Moscow.
"I like street races very much. It's terrific to see the city's architecture and people during the race, it's just an unforgettable feeling," said Hamilton while attending a news conference during the fifth annual Moscow Street Racing weekend. "It would be great to race in the night in Moscow like we did in Singapore. Many Formula One pilots like that race most of all."
"I am happy to take part in the event and it was really important for me personally as well as for my team to race in front of the Russian Formula One lovers," Charles Pic, French driver for Russian Formula One team Marussia told reporters. "It's my first ever visit to Moscow and I really love everything here. I'm the pilot of the first Russian Formula One team and I believe it's very important for all of us to come closer to our Russian supporters. I think that it will be really great if Russian engineers will work in our team at the first Russian Grand Prix in Sochi in 2014."
Mikhail Kapirulin, who is the head of the company building the Formula One race track in Sochi, said that the construction work is taking place as planned.
"We solved all the problems in projecting the track. We're building the track in tight co-operation with our colleagues, who are building Olympic venues in Sochi. It makes us confident that we will build up a top-class racing track in Sochi. It will be a great track," he told reporters.
This year three Formula One teams, McLaren Mercedes, Ferrari and Marussia are participating in the exhibition of cars under the ancient walls of Moscow's Kremlin. Valencia, Abu Dhabi and Singapore have all seen street circuits added to the calendar in recent years, with Singapore hosting Formula One night race.
Monaco Grand Prix, which has been widely referred to as the jewel in the sport's crown, has held a race every year since 1955, while Melbourne and Montreal also host street races.
