Consumer Reports unveiled its list of the 20 least reliable vehicles of 2015.
The list has a wide range, from SUVS to sports cars and from luxury vehicles to affordable sedans, reported USA Today. From big to small cars, the owners spend a lot of time getting their vehicles worked on at the mechanics.
The vehicle issues cover everything from leaks, transmission or climate controls issues to problems with the entertainment systems, according to KHOU.
However, there is some good news. Consumer Reports also listed the most reliable brands: Lexus, Toyota, Audi, Subaru, Kia, Mazda, Honda and Buick.
The list is based on a large survey of car owners done by Consumer Reports'. The goal is to save car buyers time and money by warning them about the vehicles that will drain their wallets from repairs as the vehicles age.
Over time car owners complained about problems with their infotainment systems and their integrated bundle of audio, navigation and communications systems, along with their display screen, reported Consumer Reports. While the problems weren't costly, they did cause many people aggravation.
The takeaway from the list of the best and least reliable cars is to wait a while before buying a car with brand new technology. Consumer Reports suggests waiting a year or more before buying a new car with brand-new technology.
Acura, Nissan, Infinity and Cadillac came in as less reliable cars because their new technology caused headaches for drivers.
European luxury brands like Mini, BMW, Volkswagen and Porsche came in the middle of the pack ahead of the domestics.
American automakers ranked in the lower part of the list, including Ford, GMC, Chevrolet and Fiat Chrysler (Ram, Jeep). Mercedes came in just ahead of Fiat Chrysler.
Consumer Reports also received complaints from 1,400 Tesla Model S owners, who said that their luxury electric cars were not very reliable. As a result, the electric car company moved from an average reliability ranking to a below average ranking.
