Tesla Model S Sets Long-Distance Record, Drives 452.8 Miles On Single Charge (VIDEO)

Tesla Motors is starting to show that electric cars aren't as limited in their range as previously believed.

A recent record-breaking drive by a Tesla Model S owner is a case in point, Bjorn Nyland, a programmer at the University of Oslo, has just completed a 452-mile journey on a single charge. This is astonishing because the car is advertised as having a 265-mile range, noted Tech Crunch.

The amazing feat was documented in a YouTube video by Nyland who drove with a friend at a pace of 25 miles-per-hour, cruising at near zero elevation. This is called hypermiling, a practice by many Tesla owners to improve the car's efficiency. The pair took turns driving in shifts, which covered 18 hours and 40 minutes beginning at a recharging station at Rodekro, Denmark, Tech Insider reported.

No less than Elon Musk, Tesla's CEO, noticed Nyland's record-breaking drive. Although it is not yet officially recognized as a world record, Musk retweeted the video that the programmer posted Tuesday. If Nyland's claim is true, it successfully surpassed the record for a Tesla Model S set in 2012 when David Metcalf and his son Adam drove their car for 423.5 miles on one charge, according to Mashable.

Nyland's 2-year-old Model S P85D is a "premium performance" sedan equipped with dual motor and all-wheel drive.
