From self-driving cars to hovercrafts, travel on Earth is starting to look more and more like a "Back To The Future" movie. Everyone has always dreamed of futuristic transportation, but while automakers are busy creating new concepts to drive in, what about what those models are driving on?

VolkerWessels, a Dutch construction company, believes that plastic roads can be a new alternative, Gizmodo reports. The idea has been tested in the companies "street lab," but is still in development infancy. The pieces of plastic road would be hollow, allowing for underground infrastructures and sewer systems to be installed, according to Wired.

The movement would allow easy removal as well as installation. The engineers want to create a system of roads with an "exit strategy." In other words, if plastic highways and roads are constructed, it will allow engineers in the future easy removal should new plans of construction arise.

What VolkerWessels wants to do is recycle. Yes, the roads would be made of recycled plastic from oceans. It would be molded into a "bricks" and installed with ease on site. The plastic roads would also cut pollution emitted by asphalt, which is responsible for 2 percent of all road transport emissions, according to The Guardian.
