Dodge Revives Viper For 2016 Street-Legal Racing Machine (PHOTOS)

It's back! Dodge is reviving its famed Viper ACR for what it's calling the "fastest street-legal Viper" ever. In other words, be afraid. Be very afraid.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles unveiled the 2016 model at its Conner Avenue Assembly facility in Detroit on Friday where its current Vipers are built. While we don't know everything about the car yet, here's some of the specs so fellow drivers, or potential buyers, can be prepared for this speed demon.

What is it?

Featured under the hood is a familiar Viper companion, an 8.4-liter V10 OHV engine, which is rated at 645 horsepower. FCA says ACR owners can expect 600 lb-ft of torque, which is the most torque of "any naturally aspirated" sports vehicle engine ever.

The Viper also comes with a new aerodynamics package that helps deliver almost a ton of downforce when riding at its max speed of 177 mph, according to FCA. A "race-tuned" suspension and race shocks are also welcomed additions.

What we like?

There is a lot to like about this ride, like its Kumho Ecsta V720 tires and new carbon-ceramic brakes, but we did a double take when we read the Viper is capable of "more than" 1.5G on high-speed turns.

"This car is not a 1-3 lap track special. You can run the car at the track all day, and the performance doesn't fall off," said CEO and President of Dodge Brand, Tim Kuniski, in a statement.

What's new?

Dodge's customization program continues with this new beast, which usually goes for at about $95,000 for the GT. The program will allow buyers choose from 24,000 custom stripe variations, 8,000 colors, 16 interiors, 11 wheels, and seven aero packages. Three brake options and four suspensions will also be available to help allow for more than 25 million build combinations.

It's clear Dodge really doesn't want to see any similar Vipers on the road at the same time.

Can I buy it?

An official release date and price hasn't been announced for the new Viper. FCA says the car will be released in the third quarter so stay tuned.
