When it comes to making new facilities, Porsche usually spends most of its dough in its home country of Germany. Once it was decided that a new headquarters was needed in the U.S. however, the automaker stepped up like never before.
Porsche unveiled its new headquarters and Porsche Experience Center (PEC) this week in Atlanta, which cost a staggering sum of $100 million to complete.
The investment was easily the most the automaker has ever spent outside of Germany, according to Porsche.
"Today we celebrate a significant milestone in the history of Porsche as we expand our footprint in the United States and reaffirm our commitment to the state of Georgia and the city of Atlanta," said Matthias Mueller, President and CEO of Porsche AG, in a company statement. "We are investing more than ever before, heightening visibility for the Porsche brand in the U.S. and worldwide."
Located at the Northeast corner of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the complex is spread out across 27-acres and is more than we can handle.
So what did Porsche spend all that money on? How about a driver development race-track that features six "instructor-led" driving modules.
Pretty cool, right?
There's also a driving simulator lab, classic Porsche gallery and a restaurant expected to feed 30,000 mouths annually.
"The experience center coupled with our headquarters is truly the first of its kind in the automotive industry where we welcome employees, partners, customers and enthusiasts alike," Porsche Cars North American president and chief executive Detlev von Platen said in a statement.
A total of 450 jobs will be filled at the new headquarters, 100 of which will be completely new positions to the Georgia area, according to the automaker.
