Hyundai is planning to add 100,000 cars in the United States, according to the company’s CEO and president John Krafcik Thursday in Birmingham.
In March, the Korean company sold nearly 70,000 while only 55,000 cars were available in the inventory. Because of the fast growth in sales, the auto industry made this decision to add more vehicles. According to Krafcik, they will make 100,000 additional cars available in retail by reducing the percentage of vehicles it sells to fleet from 10 percent to around 5 percent.
“We are literally selling cars off the transporters,” said Krafcik.
Last year, the automaker sold 645,691 vehicles in the United States, which was the highest record in the company’s history in America. Krafcik foresees Hyundai to sell above 700,000 vehicles by the end of this year.
For now, the Korean car maker has said to focus on improving the quality, customer service, and supplier relations.
“There is this idea that you can grow too fast,” Krafcik said.
