The "Fast & Furious" franchise has helped inspire a new generation of car fans around the globe and now fans can look forward to at least one more movie.
"Furious 8" will reach theaters on April 14, 2017, according to Universal Pictures. The news was confirmed by the studio shortly after "Fast & Furious" star Vin Diesel announced an eighth "Fast & Furious" movie during CinemaCon 2015.
"We are making 'Furious 8,'" said Diesel to a stunned crowd during CinemaCon 2015, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Diesel didn't provide any further details about "Furious 8" but it will be the first one since "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift" in 2006 that won't star Paul Walker.
Walker, who was killed during a car accident on Nov. 30, 2013, was with Diesel the last time he made an appearance at the Las Vegas exhibition.
"I swear to you and to my brother upstairs, we are going to make the best movie you've ever seen," Diesel said, referencing his fallen co-star, according to EW.
The "Fast & Furious" Twitter account also tweeted out the confirmed date to assure fans at least one more movie will reach the big screen.
"Furious 7," the latest film in the popular franchise, only came out on April 3 but that hasn't stopped the movie was taking in $302,276,765 domestically, according to Box Office Mojo.
When you include worldwide numbers it's made more than $1 billion in only three weeks, making it the sixth highest grossing movie of all time.
