Jaguar formally announced on Thursday at the New York International Auto Show that a newly designed Jaguar F-TYPE will enter production.

The new convertible from Jaguar will join the current line of "innovative and seductive" cars as the fourth model, along with the XF sports sedan, the XJ luxury sedan, and the XK coupe/convertible.

According to the company's statement, the focus of Jaguar F-TYPE will be on "delivering a rewarding drive experience."

"The core appeal of Jaguar’s cars is their sporting heart and that will beat stronger than ever before in the F-TYPE," said Adrian Hallmark, Global Brand Director of Jaguar Cars, at the auto show in New York.

"Its development is a vivid representation of the confidence and ambition of the Jaguar brand and the desire amongst our engineers and design team to produce a world-leader in a market segment that we have been absent from for too long. But no longer, the F-TYPE is coming,” Hallmark added.

Hallmark also noted that the positive reaction from last September's C-X16 concept accelerated the development of the Jaguar F-TYPE.

The company said that engineering prototypes are now being placed into service at Jaguar’s Castle Bromwich plant in British Midlands.
