Infinity Electric Car Concept at New York

Nissan’s luxury brand Infinity will unveil a battery-electric concept car at next month’s New York Auto Show.

Infinity, who had showed a plug-in hybrid concept, the Emerge-E, at the Geneva Motor Show, will take styling cues from the G-Series sedan and coupe, and the JX crossover on their upcoming electric car. Underneath the new styling will be the Leaf’s electric motor and batteries section. To improve the Infiniti’s performance, the lithium-ion battery pack will be larger than the Leaf’s 24-kWh. A Leaf does 0-60 mph in 11 seconds, not exactly a blistering pace, but Infiniti indicated that the LE will shave a few seconds off that time.

The Infiniti electric car certainly will have to sacrifice some efficiency for style and performance. Sam Chung, marketing manager for Infinite, states to media that the purpose of designing the car was aimed at luxury. “It was designed to be a luxury vehicle first and an electric vehicle second,” says Chung. The name of the vehicle has not been revealed yet.

Further information will be revealed at the New York debut. As of Nissan’s dual-brand strategy, other Infiniti models cost more than comparable Nissans, since they offer more perks and amenities.
