A Porsche 918 Spyder was destroyed during a crash earlier this morning that took place on a narrow residential street in China.

Don't feel too bad for the owner though, he is a multi-millionaire who is already planning on replacing it with a Bugatti Veyron.

The fast supercar, one of only 918 made, slammed into a tree on the right side of the road near a popular bar and restaurant area. The owner of the vehicle, businessman Xiong He, let his girlfriend take the wheel after returning home from a shopping trip in the eastern Chinese city of Shanghai.

It is believed the girlfriend mixed the throttle up with the brake, thus causing the crash. The two were unharmed somehow.

Eyewitnesses said the owner appeared unconcerned about the car as his focus was strictly on the well-being of the female passenger.

"I was surprised how calm he was, he was more concerned about his girlfriend and told her not to worry, as he would take care of everything," an eyewitness said, according to Mirror.co.

After calling police to report the incident, the two were seen leaving in a taxi. Luckily there were no pedestrians nearby on the pavement due to the early hour.

A new 918 Spyder sells for 13.39 million yuan or $2.2 million in the U.S. and repairs can get pretty expensive. As of now the owner isn't planning on having it repaired however, and instead wants to put it in the front garden of his house as a reminder to himself to do all the driving in the future.

Base 918 Spyders are powered by a hybrid drive train, which is good for 887 horsepower.

Based on photos posted on CarNewsChina.com, the airbags did not deploy after hitting the tree, which means the speed of the vehicle was probably low on impact.
