Nationwide gas prices dropped to a four year low in mid-November when the price of a gallon of gas dipped to $2.86 a gallon.
The last time the national cost of gas was that low was in the waning months of 2010, according to GasBuddy.com. The only difference is that in 2010, prices were on the rise, and would keep rising until gas hit its peak at nearly four dollars in the summer of 2011.
In comparison, AAA believes that this year and in early 2015, gas prices will continue to drop based on low crude oil prices.
Though gas prices are that main reason airline ticket costs have increased over the last couple years, passengers don't see ticket price deductions at the same rate that car and van passengers save when gas prices drop, according to GasBuddy.com.

The usual U.S. household purchases about 1,200 gallons of gas a year. Vehicle owners have purchased an average of $3.38 a gallon from January through November, according to MarketWatch.com.
