Argentine sports journalist Jorge Lopez was killed earlier today (July 9) after his taxi was hit by a stolen car fleeing police.
Lopez is the second reporter from his country to be killed in a wreck in Brazil during the World Cup.
The reporter was killed at the scene of the accident in downtown Guarulhos, according to Reuters, citing a police spokeswoman.
The taxi driver involved in the accident suffered a broken clavicle and was taken to a nearby hospital, according to Soccerly.com.
Police have since detained three people who were in the stolen vehicle in Guarulhos, which is 12 miles from Sao Paulo.
The three criminals were fleeing police in a stolen black Nissan at the time incident.
Argentina's national team is set to play the Netherlands in the city later on today in the World Cup semi-final game.
The team has already lamented the loss of Jorge "Topo" Lopez on its official Twitter page. In their post, they expressed their condolences to his wife, children, and co-workers at Radio La Red and newspaper Ole Sports.
On July 2, Argentine reporter Maria Soledad Fernandez was also killed in a car crash.
Fernandez was traveling to Belo Horizonte from Sao Paulo when the incident occurred. She was accompanied by three other journalist who survived the accident, according to Soccerly.com.
