Pizza Hut Developing Touchscreen Table

Pizza Hut could soon be offering a futuristic way of ordering.

The franchise posted a YouTube video on Monday that shows a touchscreen table where customers can virtually select a crust, pour sauce onto it and pick out their favorite toppings, TIME reported.

In the video, a couple orders a pizza, arguing over the size and then specifying for pepperoni on half. The table concept, which TIME compares to a giant Microsoft PixelSense touchscreen, also features games that customers can play after they complete their order.

"The interactive experience will be a lot of fun," Pizza Hut spokesman Doug Terfehr told Nation's Restaurant News in an email. "Adding toppings, taking away toppings, changing sizes, playing games--all of those things are at the controls of you, the user. It's a lot like ordering via an app on your phone on the table right there in front of you."

When will this futuristic table be available at your local Pizza Hut? It could be a while.

"This is in concept stage at the moment," Terfehr told Nation's Restaurant News, "but as we continue to push for more technology to make the experience with our stores even better, this is one of those ideas we really like."

Pizza Hut was vague in the YouTube description, simply saying, "With the help of our friends at Chaotic Moon Studios, we're taking a look at an interactive concept table that could be the future of the Pizza Hut dine-in ordering experience."

Innovation could be good for the restaurant chain, which has been working to revamp the Pizza Hut image after a drop in sales last year.

Some Pizza Hut locations recently began selling pizza by the slice in an attempt to draw millennials, who frequent chains like Chipotle that have fast service and a reputation for "restaurant-quality" food.
