Sony has confirmed it has sold 5.3 million PlayStation 4 consoles as of Feb. 8, according to Reuters.

The new PS4 was released on Nov. 29 in the U.S., Latin America, and Western Europe. It has been released in select Asian countries since.

Sony is currently preparing to release the console in Japan next week.

The company previously said it expected to sell around 5 million consoles before April, a mark that they reached over a month early.

The console will go on sale in Japan on Feb. 22, the last country currently scheduled to sell the console, according to Reuters.

The latest sales figures confirmed by Microsoft showed that 3.9 Xbox One consoles have been shipped to worldwide, as of Jan. 23.

Sony "nearly" doubled the number of systems sold last month in the U.S., according to Reuters.

Nintendo has sold 5.86 million Wii U consoles since its release, which means Sony's new console is selling nearly four times quicker than Nintendo's flagship.
