Elon Musk finally revealed details regarding his Hyperloop transport system on Aug. 12, but the Tesla CEO also said he now wishes he never even mentioned it in the first place.
The Hyperloop is designed to transport people and vehicles from faster than any other form of transportation available currently according to the Associated Press.
The system would reportedly help a person get from Los Angeles to San Francisco in only 35 minutes according to Musk. It consists of a low-pressure tube with capsules that can be transported at low and high speeds though the length of the tube.
Riding in the capsules would feel like "being in an airplane" according to Musk, who said the system would be like a cross between a "Concorde, a railgun, and an air hockey table."
"I'd like to see something like this happen," Musk said in a press statement. "It would be cool to see a new form of transport happen."
The Hyperloop would be the fifth mode of transportation after trains, cars, planes, and boats.
During a conference call last week, Musk said the Hyperloop is a "low priority" as he's more focused on his other companies for the time being according to the Associated Press.
"I think I kind of shot myself by ever mentioning the Hyperloop," Musk said in the press conference. "I don't have any plans to execute, because I must remain focused on SpaceX and Tesla."
The system is approximately seven to 10 years away according to Musk's calculations. It would cost $ 6 billion to make, and passenger tickets would be priced for around $20 for a one-way ticket.
The Hyperloop was designed by Musk and a team of engineers from both Tesla and SpaceX.
Musk claims the system would never fail or crash, and would run on solar energy used to power the "Hyperloop" system 24 hours a day.
"I'm not going to make a ton of money on this, but I would like to see it come to fruition," said Musk according to Edmunds.
