Lamborghini finished its 50th anniversary celebration with the introduction of a new vehicle, the Lamborghini Egoista.
The brand-new model was created for the event as tribute for the 50th anniversary by a team led by Volkswagen Group designer Walter De Silva.
The name, which means "selfish" when translated, was used because it only has one seat. The company said people shouldn't expect all the same qualities of a helicopter however as it was not fitted with electronic counter-measures and canisters of chaff to block Gatso cameras according to Lamborghini.
"This is a car made for one person only," De Silva said at the unveiling of the Egoista at Lamborghini's 50th anniversary party.
The designer also said the vehicle will make people feel like they're in a "four-wheeled UFO."
The vehicle shown this past week was a concept car, but the company said they never reveal a vehicle with the intention for mass production. This would seemingly indicate that people can expect the vehicle to start showing up at dealerships within the next couple of years.
The new design includes a 5.2-liter V-10 engine and produces 592 horsepower according to a company press release.
Designers were inspired by an Apache Helicopter when creating the Egoista, and even created a similar ejecting cockpit for the car. Getting out of the vehicle is a complicated process De Silva said at the event.
To get out, a driver has to remove the steering wheel, rest it on the dashboard, open the canopy, stand and then sit down on the exact point of the bodywork, and then move 180 degrees according to De Silva. The driver can then set their feet down safely and stand up.
"The cockpit represents a sort of survival cell, allowing the driver to isolate and protect themselves from external elements," De Silva said at the event. "We kept an eye on the future when designing the Egoista, with the idea that its cockpit could have been taken from a jet aircraft and integrated into a road vehicle."
