Volkswagen is planning to launch a production version of its T-Roc compact SUV in the United States in 2019. The vehicle will slot just below the VW Tiguan.
VW to launch T-Roc compact SUV in 2019. VW brand c,.hief Herbert Diess said at the company's annual press conference last week that a production version of the VW T-Roc will be launched in 2019. This is according to a report by automotive website Automotive News. "It was only yesterday that we decided on an additional SUV for 2019," Diess told reporters at the VW's annual press conference.
The Volkswagen T-Roc concept was unveiled at the Geneva Auto Show in 2014. The concept vehicle featured digital instrumentation, removable roof panels, and LED spotlights. Under its hood is an 181-horsepower diesel engine.
Given that it will be a productive version of a concept vehicle, the compact SUV could possibly arrive with a different name. It could also differ from the concept in terms of design. The digital instrumentation could still remain on the production version. The removable roof panels, however, will most likely be replaced with a standard traditional glass roof. It is said to come with an optional all-wheel drive system.
The T-Roc coming to the United States is not a decision based on market demand. It is, however, a decision based on the ability of United States dealers to sell enough of the vehicle to make a profit although VW dealers believe that the current market demand for compact crossover vehicles will help.
Speaking about the Volkswagen T-Roc, former VW dealer chairman Alan Brown said, "Everybody love's T-Roc, everybody." He further added, "The only concern is whether it's going to be priced outside of the market, where it wouldn't do the volume that it deserves to do."
Aside from the United States, the upcoming compact SUV will be released in Europe. According to Automotive News it will launch much earlier in Europe than in the United States, specifically this summer.
