$250,000 Subway Typo: MTA Forgets To Change Fare Prices On New Maps, Forced To Throw Them Away (PHOTOS)

As if the new MTA fare prices weren't bad enough, The New York Post is reporting they forgot to add the price changes to their new maps, which cost $250,000 to make.

The MTA reportedly forgot to add on the new maps that the minimum price for a pay-per-ride card is now $5.00 instead of the previous price of $4.50. The report claims they printed "thousands" of these maps and handed them out to every station in New York City.

A March 2013 map clearly shows the mistakes listed with the minimum price, and workers around the city started receiving calls last week to stop putting up the maps with "no explanation offered" according to The New York Post.

One transit source who spoke with The New York Post said they've been working "frantically" to get the maps down to avoid confusion and to make sure people don't complain about being charged too much.

"They're very embarrassed about this," said the unknown source to The New York Post. "They were frantically calling the booths trying to get these maps back."

The number of maps that were misprinted is unknown at this time, as is the exact amount of money the city spent on them. Early estimates indicate that approximately 70-80,000 incorrect maps were printed, which equals around $250,000.

Updated maps are expected to reach stations within a few weeks according to The New York Post. Workers predict that this will probably go down as one of the most costly typo mistakes in MTA history.

"They weren't coming out with a new map because they were changing the map," Paul Flores, an MTA station agent and union leader, said. "They were coming out with a new map because they were changing the price. That was the sole purpose. And they couldn't even get that right."
