Supernatural was able to pull off an excellent episode. Many have commented that this episode was a masterpiece. It had an interesting concept, a good story, and it offered a lot of insight into the past. Some may even argue that Crowley can be seen in a different light.
Season 12, Episode 12: "Stuck in the Middle (With You)" Recap. The episode was an evident nod to Quentin Tarantino's "Reservoir Dogs," as pointed out by Entertainment Weekly. The episode focuses on telling a "story" which was segregated into several different chapters complete with the timestamps and everything. It was expertly done and even after 12 years, Supernatural can still remain exciting and fresh to its loyal fans.
Mary has been working together with the British Men of Letters and she seems to like this partnership. But the new mission proves to be quite daunting, so she calls on the help of Wally, a fellow hunter.
Mary tells the team that they need to focus on the new target that Wally needed help with. The entire episode is filled with flashbacks and fas forwards. tThe Nerdist noted that all of the cuts and jumps were creative but it ended up downplaying a lot of major revelations.
The Supernatural team is in a house where Mary slips into the basement and breaks into a safe to steal an unrevealed object. When the team meets the demon several things go wrong. The demon seems to be immune to bullets, the demon knife and walks right through a demon trap.
Castiel is injured and Wally, unfortunately, doesn't make it. The demon was able to magically conjure up a spear that he stabs Castiel with before Mary can hit him with her car. She later reveals to Sam that the demon had yellow eyes.
Crowley suddenly shows up. He explains to the Supernatural team that the additional demons were his but that they were dealing with Ramiel, a Prince of Hell. A Prince of Hell is apparently from the oldest generation of demons, the first after Lilith who Lucifer turned himself. Azazel was one of them and they all have yellow eyes.
Another flashback occurs which shows Crowley first meeting Ramiel. Lilith and Azazel were dead and Lucifer was put into the cage. Crowley went to hell to give Ramiel the crown, the weapon he used on Castiel (the Lance of Michael), and the object Mary stole. However, Ramiel didn't want to be King and neither of his siblings was interested either so Crowley was given the go signal to rule Hell.
Crowley tries to plead with him Ramiel who refuses. Castiel begs the Winchesters to leave him, but they refuse to because they don't leave family behind. This scene is filled with a lot of heart-wrenching Supernatural drama.
The Winchesters are able to trap Ramiel with holy oil. Ramiel mentions that something has been stolen and pulls out the Lance of Michael but Sam is able to one-up him and use it against him. He disappears into a puff of smoke but Castiel is still suffering. Crowley remembers something about the magic of the staff and breaks it in two and Castiel is instantly healed.
Mary meets Mr. Ketch who apologizes for the bad information. She hands over what she stole: IT'S THE COLT. Crowley is seen on the phone talking about looking for the Colt and Lucifer is behind him in a cage.
