The much-anticipated 2017 iPhone 8 is reported to have an updated biometric identification technology and will feature a wrap around OLED display for better structural support. This was all indicated in the recent Apple research report and prediction released by KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kou.
According to the reliable and highly cited analyst, a new design is necessary so that it could provide a better structural support for a flexible OLED display with 3D Touch. Since there are massive expectations for the upcoming flagship device from the Cupertino-based tech giant, they're pulling out the big guns here.

Kuo's predictions highly line up with rumors circulating regarding the anticipated "10th anniversary" iPhone. It is reportedly said that the new iPhone 8 will feature an essential redesign, a glass body, and potential wireless charging. The Home Button will instead be embedded in an edge-to-edge display, much similar to the Galaxy Edge, which is the current trend in smartphones.
According to the report from analyst Kuo, which MacRumors published earlier, the 2017 iPhone 8 could switch from an FBCB sensor to a film sensor, allowing for a higher sensitivity and a "better 3D Touch user experience." Since OLED panels are significantly known to be more fragile and to avoid deforming its form factor, Apple will instead place a metal structural part under the film sensor for more robust support. But the report did not signify whether or not the extra layer of metal will be visible or whether it will be part of the internal component of the unit.
Also, Kou believes that instead of still utilizing the Touch ID system, the Cupertino-based tech giant might be highly in favor of a facial recognition system for enhanced security. "However, if the technical challenges cannot be overcome, we believe a combination of fingerprint and facial recognition is another possible solution," said the highly renowned analyst Kuo.
Plus, the analyst noted that Apple has applied for a number of biorecognition patents, as reported by The Verge. But we will have to wait whether the 2017 iPhone 8 will support facial recognition and bypass Touch ID or iris scanner until the unit graces Apple's store front.
Given that the report are only predictions but Apple aims to enhance the security features of its devices be it enhanced Touch ID capabilities, iris scanner, or facial recognition, or a combination. The 2017 iPhone 8 is expected to make its debut this fall, with rumors citing the device will be bezel-less and with no Home Button entirely.
Kuo believes that the Touch ID system will be phased out in favor of a facial recognition system for the upcoming iPhone 8, although this could work in concert with a fingerprint reader if the "technical challenges cannot be overcome."
