Danica Patrick was involved in a bad crash on lap 155 of the NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Kansas Speedway on Sunday. The accident caused Patrick to total her car and lose her respectable finish.
After getting frustrated with fellow driver Landon Cassill, believing he had tried to push her car out of the way earlier in the race, Patrick drove towards the corner of the turn with her front fender on Cassill's rear bumper and sent Cassill's car into a tailspin.
Unfortunately for Patrick, her car did too, and she wound up crashing into the wall leaving her car destroyed.
Cassill was able to finish the race.
"I have just been really frustrated with the No. 83," said Patrick after the crash in a press conference. "He slammed into me on the front straight for no other reason than his radio communication, 'She was in the way.' I've always played fair. If it's one time, I can imagine frustration. But it's been pretty consistent with him getting in to me. So at some point in time, I have to stand up for myself, or everybody's going to do it."
Patrick was in 16th place and on the final lap in her ninth overall Sprint Cup Series start of the season. Thanks to the crash however, she finished in 32 place, her second to worse finish ever. Cassill meanwhile was able to complete the race and finished in 18th place.
"Ultimately, I'm disappointed with the results," Patrick said before qualifying 41st for Sunday's Sprint Cup race in a press conference. "I wish there were better results on the record books, but there are a lot of drivers that can say that at the end of the year."
She will be racing full-time for Stewart-Hass Racing starting next season according to ABC.
To make matters worse, the car that was destroyed was going to be used at the big Texas Motor Speedway race coming up in two weeks. Her current racing team JR Motorsports had been preparing the vehicle for a long time now and will now have to scramble to come up with another car in time.
"My situation with Cassill is really a product of frustration," said Patrick. "He got into me on the front straight and said I was just in the way. That's really no good reason to hit me. The bummer about it is that my car is out, and he's still out there going, so I've got to work on how to do that."
