On "Jimmy Kimmel Live" this week, Robert Pattinson, 26, revealed that he gets around Hollywood in a 2001 Chevy Silverado pickup that he bought recently off of Craigslist for $2,500.
This is in spite of having been said by Forbes to have earned $26.5 million last year.
Clearly not all young stars splash out on spectacularly expensive cars as soon as they get their first fat paycheck.
Pattinson's possibly-ex-girlfriend, Kristen Stewart, 22 was named highest-paid actress by Forbes with earnings from May 2011 to May 2012 of $34.5 million. But when the actress was photographed kissing Rupert Sanders in those photos last month, it was in the unflashy black Mini Cooper that she's had for several years.
So casual is Stewart about her wheels that a London paper last year criticized the Twilight actress for allowing her car to remain coated in road dirt.
The young female star of a newer smash-hit series, Jennifer Lawrence, 22, also prefers an understated ride. The Hunger Games lead has repeatedly been spotted in a white Volkswagen Eos.
When another budding action star, Andrew Garfield, 29, was pulled over recently for speeding in Malibu, it was in an Audi A7. The British actor's girlfriend and Amazing Spiderman costar, Emma Stone, 23, was riding shotgun in the four-door car, which has a starting price tag of$59,520.
Audis are favored by many young celebs. Zac Efron, 24, has owned at least two, and Michelle Williams and Jessica Biel, 31 and 30, have both been seen driving Q7s. Anne Hathaway, 29, whose image is somewhat brainy and self-effacing, drives a surprisingly flashy R8.
Audis are also popular with the young royals. Prince William, 30, last year exchanged his S4 sedan for an A6 Avant (he's also been seen driving various Land Rovers and Range Rovers over the years), and Prince Harry, 27, has been photographed behind the wheel of at least one. Before marrying into the family, Kate Middleton, now 30, adopted the royal penchant for Audis, driving a more modest A3 for several years.
The royals' fondness for Audis is not surprising, given that they reportedly receive a steep discount from the German car company.
Other celebs evidently don't seek out any sort of discount.
When Justin Bieber, 18, was pulled over on a California freeway trying to outrun the paparazzi last month, he was driving a chrome $100,000 Fisker Karma (see video).
Reality TV queen Kim Kardashian, 31, also doesn't feel the need to keep a low profile on the road. Her car is a black $300,000 Rolls-Royce Ghost.
