Prince Harry's nude Vegas romp is not exactly good publicity, but it's also not likely to be the hardest thing he's had to live down. It's already well known that the third in line to Britain's throne likes women and a good time, and so the photos that reveal him playing strip pool in the privacy of his hotel suite don't seem to have anyone very shocked.
As the Times said, Prince Harry has a "a special place in the nation's heart", particularly in light of his recent good conduct on an official Caribbean tour and at the London Olympics. "There has never been a better time for the third in line to the throne to be photographed naked, with naked company, in a Las Vegas hotel room," the paper said.
"It is a testament to his sheer likeability that Britain will most likely greet his latest, literal, revelations with a grin and an indulgent shrug. If he's still naked at 50, things may be different."
Perhaps it's his unpretentious style, or the African charity work that seems to be genuinely close to his heart, or his military service, but Prince Harry is a popular royal, in spite of having already amassed impressive list of gaffes for someone his age.
Still, if one were to amass a top five list of his top gaffes, the strip pool would definitely be on it. Here are some other incidents in Harry's life that might qualify:
Marijuana use: In January of 2002, it was announced that Prince Charles had learned that his then-17-year-old younger son had been kicking back with cannabis. The revelation came amidst media reports that Prince Harry had been thrown out of at least one pub near his father's estate, Highgrove, due to underage drinking, rowdiness, harassing other patrons, and generally acting like an entitled little brat.
Prince Charles sent his son to a London rehab clinic so he could see firsthand the dangers of substance abuse, and the palace moved on. Since Harry was guilty of nothing more than what 17-year-olds the world over have done, everyone else moved on too.
Tussle with photographers: In 2004, Harry was leaving a London nightclub at 3:15 AM when, it was alleged, he pushed a photographer's camera into their face, cutting their lip.
The palace maintained he came into contact with the camera by accident.
Nazi costume: In 2005, Prince Harry attended a costume party with a "colonials and natives" theme. The costume he selected was based on the ones worn by Nazi soldiers stationed in Africa during World War II. The Sun tabloid carried a photo of Harry in the uniform on its cover, and condemnation poured in from around the world, including international Jewish groups.
He released a statement, saying "I'm very sorry if I have caused any offense. It was a poor choice of costume, and I apologize."
Groping a woman: In 2006, The Sun again ran a photo of Harry in a compromising position. This time, photo was of him kissing TV presenter Natalie Pinkham on the cheek from behind and groping her breast. Adding to the scandal was the fact that Harry was supposed to be in a relationship with Chelsy Davy at the time.
It turns out that the photos had been taken three years before their publication (pre-dating the relationship with Davy), and had been stolen from Ms Pinkham personal collection.
Racial slurs: In 2009, News of the World ran a home video made by Harry three years before in which he refers to one of his fellow soldiers as "our little Paki friend" and tells another soldier that he looked like a "raghead" (see excerpts from the video below). Defenders said that it was just good-natured ribbing among army buddies, but condemnations for racism again flooded Harry's way, and even included a censure by future-Prime Minister David Cameron.
As he had done so many times before and no doubt will so many times again, Harry apologized. And again, he was forgiven.
