The recent blockbuster movie adaptation of DC Comics' Suicide Squad was met with mixed reviews from its audience. One thing most of the viewers tend to agree on, however, was the stellar performance of Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. Her character was well-received by the masses, very much so that there will soon be a solo Harley Quinn movie, which she is also rumored to produce.
There are no other details yet about the movie, but The Hollywood Reporter said that Robbie had already signed a 'first look' deal with Warner Bros., which would cast her into two films: the Harley Quinn spin-off and an adaptation of Dean N. Jensen's Queen of the Air. Wired explained the 'first look' as a deal in which the studio gets first refusal on movies she wishes to develop.
The 26-year-old Aussie actress rose to stardom for her breakthrough role alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in Martin Scorcese's film, The Wolf of Wall Street. Since then Robbie has played leading roles in numerous Warner Bros. films, including Suicide Squad, Focus and The Legend of Tarzan.
Robbie is set to be the executive producer of the Harley Quinn spin-off films under her LuckyChap Entertainment banner. She will work with her associates, Josey McNamara, Tom Ackerley and Sophia Kerr to develop the film.
Robbie and LuckyChap are also in post-production on the upcoming thriller Terminal. Another film in development is Tonya and an adaptation of Matt Ruff's Bad Monkeys.
Robbie has been making hints after the success of Suicide Squad that there was a lot lacking in the film. "There was so much of our (Harley and Jokey) backstory (but) they probably realized that the emotional through-line of the story had to be the mission we were on," she told Tipsy Talk.
The Harley Quinn solo film is not yet expected until 2020, or possibly even later, given the actress' in-demand status. However, Robbie has already started promoting the spin-off film saying that she's "trying to make it happen."
