Faraday Future has finally given auto fans a look at its first concept car, unveiling the vehicle Monday at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
The secretive startup claims that the sleek, single-seat electric sports car, dubbed the FFZero1, can produce as much as 1,000 horsepower, according to CNN Money. The car's chassis can be manipulated to include a varying number of battery packs, and it can hold as many as four electric motors, giving it the chance to create two-wheel or four-wheel drive vehicles.
While it still remains a mystery as to what Faraday's first production car will look like, it is expected to have a more conservative and practical style. The company is also expected to make the vehicle available in two years.
"You don't have to sacrifice anything for being sustainable," said Richard Kim, Faraday's head of design. "This is a 100% sustainable, electric, non-polluting vehicle, and it can be as dynamic as 1,000 horsepower."
Kim's previous work included helping design BMW's i3 and i8 plug-in cars, USA Today reported. The electric car startup has also hired designers and engineers from Tesla, Ferrari and other big automakers.
Faraday also showed off the car's battery-pack system, which can work continuously even if one unit fails.
The automaker, which has been operating in secrecy for the past 18 months, intends to build "increasing levels of autonomy" into its cars in order to eventually create fully self-driving vehicles, CNN Money noted.
The unveiling follows about a month after Faraday, backed by Chinese billionaire Jia Yueting, revealed that it chose a suburb just north of Las Vegas as the home for its $1 billion electric car factory. Executives said at CES 2016 that Faraday plans on hiring 4,500 for the facility.
