In a reshuffling of the deck at airbag and safety product manufacturer Takata, president Stefan Stocker will step down, following the fiasco surrounding cases of the company's improperly functioning airbags.
Stocker was appointed about a year and a half ago to run operations at Takata, and will be replaced by chairman Shigehisa Takada, who is related to the Takata namesake. Stocker was appointed to his post to deal with the anticipated turmoil following the airbag scandal's beginning.
The last couple of months have not been without tumult for Takata. After the problem surfaced early on in some Honda models, it was discovered that the automaker had run its own battery of tests on the company's product. Investors dropped out in spades. And in the case of further recalls, General Motors has a back-up plan to use airbags from AutoLiv or TRW.
