Chrysler is recalling more than 30,000 commercial full-size vans in the United States to replace their head restraints.

The automaker, which is a unit of Fiat, said the 2014 model Ram ProMaster vehicles were manufactured with head restraints that could exceed the allowable gap between an occupant's head and the restraint.

Affected vehicles were manufactured July 1, 2013 to Aug. 26, 2014.

"The vehicles were assembled with head restraints that may exceed the allowable gap between an occupant's head and the restraint," said Chrysler in a statement provided to Edmunds.

Chrysler said it is unaware of any injuries, accidents or complaints related to the issue, according to Reuters.

If the vehicle is struck from behind, the head restraint may not properly limit the seat occupant's head movement rearward, which increases the risk of injury.

Chrysler will start notifying owners within the next month or so., but has not yet provided a notification schedule.

Dealers are being notified to replace the head restraints, free of charge.

Approximately 31,497 vehicles are affected by the recall.

"If the vehicle is struck from behind, the head restraint may not properly limit the seat occupant's head movement rearwards, increasing the risk of injury," said the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in its recall summary.

Chrysler is expediting acquisition of replacement parts to make sure repairs are made in a timely fashion.

Last week the automaker announced it was recalling 350,000 vehicles from the 2008 model year because of an issue that may cause the ignition key to get stuck or move.

In some cases, the switch could not stop at the "on" position and instead go to "accessory" or "off" positions upon startup, which could kill the engine and/or keep the front air bags from working correctly, according to Reuters.
