General Motors recalled 524,384 cars and sport utility vehicles worldwide on Friday, bringing the automaker's total number of recalls this year to 71 and recalled vehicles to nearly 30 million.

Friday's announcement affected 430,550 Cadillac SRX and Saab 9-4X SUVs as well as 93,834 newer Chevrolet Sparks, Reuters reported.

In the wake of recalling 2.6 million small cars for defective ignition switches earlier this year, GM has made dozens more recall announcements. The ignition switch recall, which affected models such as the Chevrolet Cobalt and Saturn Ion, has been connected with at least 23 deaths.

The Cadillac SRX and Saab 9-4X SUV vehicles recalled on Friday may have "loose joint and worn threads in the rear toe link assembly that could cause the vehicle to wander at highway speed and if it separates, increasing the risk of a crash," Reuters reported.

The recall, which affects 2010-'15 SRX SUVs and 2011-'12 9-4X SUVs, includes 290,107 vehicles in the U.S., while the other recalled SUVs are in Canada, Mexico and other markets.

Dealers will replace the rear toe assembly in the SUVs if necessary. Three crashes and two injuries have been reported in connection with the issue, according to the automaker.

For the Chevrolet Spark recall, corrosion can affect the hood of the car, causing it to open unexpectedly while the vehicle is moving. According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, two customers in the U.K. and one in Denmark have said that their vehicle hood opened while driving.

Of the 93,834 recalled Chevrolet Sparks, 89,294 are in the U.S., while the rest are in Canada, Mexico and elsewhere.

Around 13,000 cars affected by the recall are still at U.S. dealerships, and GM has issued a stop-sale order until they are repaired.
