A Rhode Island man has made a dubious mark on the cities of Providence and Cumberland by being arrested in the area a record four times in a mere day and a half on charges of drunken driving.

Cumberland Police Capt. Douglas Ciullo told the Providence Journal that he had never previously witnessed a driving spree like this one--four arrests practically in a row that took place earlier this month.

John Lourenco, 53, was first arrested on charges of drunken driving after his Dodge pickup crashed into an SUV, injuring a 4-year-old boy and a 6-year-old girl who were treated at a nearby hospital and released.

After a tumultuous hospitalization where he threatened an officer and had to be restrained, Lourenco was released with a summons for driving under the influence.

His drunken driving streak allegedly continued the next day when he was arrested at 7 a.m. on a Monday morning after crashing his Chevy sedan into another car.

Following the 7 a.m. incident, Lourenco submitted to a breathalyzer test that found his blood-alcohol content at .220, nearly thrice the legal limit of .08, according to the Providence Journal report.

The third arrest happened just a few hours later when Lourenco was spotted "driving an old Plymouth Barracuda erratically on Tower Hill Road," after which he was taken to the hospital for a blood test and released to the hospital's custody.

Lourenco departed the hospital and promptly began driving his dump truck, crashing the vehicle into a tree around 5 p.m. This time, he was held for arraignment at court.

The 53-year-old's various charges from both Cumberland and Providence include reckless driving, refusing a breathalyzer, driving under the influence and having no evidence of insurance.

Released on a $25,000 surety bail, Lourenco was scheduled to face the Providence court case today.
