Kia is offering an inexpensive lease deal for its 2015 Soul electric car that will let buyers pay $249 a month for 36 months.

The South Korean automaker's first all-electric vehicle starts at $34,500 with shipping fees, which compares with the traditional Soul listed at $15,900.

Giving the electric Soul a relatively high price but cheap lease deal follows an approach that is standard for the industry, USA TODAY reported.

The Soul competes in its segment with the Ford Focus, which starts at $35,170, and the Honda Fit EV, which is priced at $36,625, according to Edmunds.com.

Kia Soul buyers should be looking at an introductory lease price of $249 a month for 36 months, after paying $1,999 at signing and handing over the $7,500 federal tax rebate for the EV.

The 2015 Soul comes standard with navigation, rear backup camera, Bluetooth, power windows, power driver's seat, cruise control, a 6.6-kilowatt on-board charger and an air-conditioning system intended to use less electricity.

Both versions of the Soul rank high when it comes to battery range, getting an EPA-estimated range number of 93 miles per charge. They also have ratings of 120 miles per gallon in the city, 92 mpg on the highway and 105 mpg combined, according to Kelley Blue Book.

The front-wheel drive Soul EV runs on an 81.4 kW, 109-horsepower electric motor capable of producing 210 pound-feet of torque and can go from 0 to 60 mph in around 12 seconds.
