Celebrity Lawyer Tells Clients Stop Using Smartphones, iCloud

One of the leading celebrity lawyers in the country has advised his clients not to use smartphones and the iCloud after intimate photos of Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence and other female entertainers and models were leaked online following an apparent hacking.

Martin Garbus, a New York trial lawyer who has represented actors Al Pacino, Sean Connery, Robert Redford and others over the years said this week worried clients have reached out to him about security issues.

"Nothing is safe on the Internet, period," he said to Reuters. "Everything on your iPhone, whether it be phone calls, message texts, pictures, is all available."

Garbus said that a lot of his clients started contacting him after intimate photos of Lawrence, the star of "The Hunger Games" movie franchise and Best Actress Academy Award Winner for "Silver Linings Playbook," and other high-profile woman started appearing online on Aug. 31.

Intimate photos of Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Kate Upton and American actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead were also posted on the image-sharing forum site 4chain.

Apple is investigating the reports that its iCloud, which stores data online instead of on a user's device, had been hacked.

Lawrence's representative told Reuters the release of the photos are a "flagrant violation of privacy" and said the proper authorities have been contacted.

A spokesman for the FBI said the agency is still looking into the matter, according to Reuters.

Garbus isn't surprised by the hacking because he has seen it happen the past to others.

"There are just so many different ways that one's privacy can be invaded," Garbus said.
