GM's Chevy Corvette Can Watch the Valet for You

General Motors has launched a technology option for the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette that will give owners more peace of mind when adding over the keys to an attendant.

Called Valet Mode, the feature documents where the car is driven with a video recording from a camera mounted in the windshield as well as audio captured inside the cabin, NBC News reported.

"Think of it as a baby monitor for your car," Harlan Charles, Corvette product manager, said in a statement.

Working with the new Performance Data Recorder, the technology will be available for the 2015 model, which is expected in showrooms this fall. The Corvette's data recording system lets drivers document their laps around a race track along with top speeds, location and lap times, Automobile Magazine reported.

The 720p camera in the windshield trim feeds along with cabin audio recording into an eight-gigabyte SD card inside the car's glovebox.

Motor Authority terms the technology option "tech for control freaks."

The Performance Data Recorder, which is activated in the central display's settings menu through a four-digit code, also lets owners lock the vehicle's interior storage and block the infotainment system from use.

Owners can watch video recording from when the vehicle was out of their sight on the display's 8-inch screen or download it onto a computer along with other information.

The data system was originally developed solely to record laps around the race track before Chevrolet decided to bring it to the open road.
