McLaren has topped itself with the new P1 GTR, a track-only race car that boasts 986 horsepower and a zero to 60 time of 2.8 seconds.
Unveiled over the weekend at this year's Concours d'Elegance in Pebble Beach, Calif., the P1 GTR runs on a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 and electric motor and has even more power than the road-friendly P1, BBC's Top Gear reported.
The GTR's "'shrink-wrapped' body shape" will "offer maximum performance, superior handling characteristics and optimized driver engagement on track," McLaren said. The newly designed exhaust system inconel and titanium alloy and emphasizes the "McLaren sound."
The automaker describes the P1 GTR as "the most track-tailored and most powerful model produced by McLaren Special Operations to date, with a clear target even more focused than its road-going sibling: to be the best driver's car in the world on track."
The crazy-fast racer is only a concept for now, but McLaren is working to develop it into a real-world vehicle, Jalopnik reported.
The GTR, which is even more aerodynamically efficient than the P1 and has 19-inch alloy wheels, will be available for an exclusive club: the 375 existing P1 owners. It will cost around $3.3 million, and McLaren could manufacture as many as 30 models, according to Top Gear.
