Ford Recalls 2013 Escape For 11th Time Over Wiring Issue

Ford Motor Co. has announced that it is recalling almost 160,000 Focus ST sedans and Escape crossovers from model years 2013-2014 over a wiring issue.

The automaker said the recall only affects vehicles with the 2.0-liter engine in North America, according to The Detroit Free Press.

Wiring harnesses on affected vehicles could have poor electrical connections, which could send faulty signals to the powertrain control module.

This could cause an engine malfunction indicator light to come on or the engine could stall, hesitate, or lose power, increasing the chance of a crash.

The connections for the engine wiring harness may have been "insufficiently compressed," Kelli Felker, a spokeswoman for Ford, said in an email, according to The New York Times.

No crashes or injuries have been attributed to the issue yet, according to Felker.

Ford failed to specify how many of each vehicle are covered by the recall.

This is the 11th recall for the 2013 Escape.

The compact crossover, one of Ford's best-selling U.S. models, was redesigned for the 2013 model year.

Since being released, the 2013 Escape has been recalled 11 times.

Approximately 133,000 of the Escape vehicles can be found in the United States, 25,000 in Canada, and 800 in Mexico.

Dealers are being instructed to replace the wiring splices. All repairs will be made free of charge.
