A teenager who stole a rooftop panel from the Porsche of actor Paul Walker shortly after the "Fast & Furious" star was killed in a crash was sentenced to six months in jail this week, a spokesman for prosecutors confirmed to Reuters.

Jameson Brooks Witty, 18, was one of two people arrested for taking the part from the scene. He pleaded guilty to grand theft of property, obstructing a peace officer, and destroying evidence, said a statement from the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.

A Los Angeles County judge sentenced Witty to six months in county jail and three years of probation on August 14, said Ricardo Santiago, a spokesman for the District Attorney's Office, according to Reuters.

Prosecutors added that Anthony Edward Janow, 26, who pleaded guilty to the same charges, will be sentenced sometime this October.

Walker was killed in a one-car crash in Santa Clarita, California, 30 miles northwest of Los Angeles. His death forced a temporary halt of production on the seventh "Fast & Furious" film.

On the same day the crash occurred, someone using the Instagram handle "jameswitty" posted photos of the part from the red Porsche and wrote "Piece of Paul walkers car, took it off a tow truck at a stop light."

Witty was arrested by Los Angeles Sheriff's deputies back in December after searching his home.

The crash also killed driver Roger Rodas.

"Fast & Furious 7" is scheduled to be released April 3, 2015, over a year after its original release date. Walker will still be featured in the film.

Authorities have ruled the crash was caused by excessive speed and not a mechanical failure, according to Reuters.

An investigation of the crash helped authorities determine that Rodas was traveling at speeds of 80 to 93 mph in a 45-mph zone, which caused him to lose control of the vehicle.
