Ford Recalls 83,250 Vehicles for Power Loss, Rollaway Risk

Ford has recalled more than 83,000 vehicles that can lose power while driving due to improper installation of a clip in the axle.

The recall includes Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX crossovers from the 2012-'14 model years; 2013 and 2014 Ford Taurus and Lincoln MKS fullsize sedans; and 2013 and 2014 Ford Flex and Lincoln MKT three-row crossovers, Cars.com reported.

The automaker is not aware of any injuries or accidents in connection with the 83,250-vehicle recall, the Associated Press reported.

The vehicles are equipped with halfshaft retention clips that may have been improperly installed during production, allowing the halfshaft to disengage from the linkshaft and in turn causing the wheels to lose power.

Rollaway risk is another danger due to an additional potential malfunction in the transmission. If the parking brake is not applied, the vehicle can roll away even if the transmission is in the "park" position.

Ford should notify owners starting Aug. 29 and begin repairing affected vehicles by the end of the month.

For the recall, Ford dealerships will examine the vehicles to see if the halfshaft is properly retained and replace parts if needed. The automaker will cover the costs of any necessary repairs.
